Health Benefits Of Coral Calcium

July 14, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

People all over the world are raving about the health benefits of coral calcium, but just what is this strange alternative medicine?  Here are some things about marine coral calcium you might want to know.

Marine coral calcium is a natural substance that actually comes from coral reefs.  It is the broken off pieces that are pulverized to sand and it is very rich in over 70 trace minerals.

Calcium and magnesium are the big compounds that make up the main characteristics of both organic and inorganic marine coral.  Marine coral has no taste or smell, and will dissolve in water, but the actual dissolving takes quite a while.   It will take one hour to dissolve approximately 1% of the coral, but if marine coral calcium is ingested in capsule form, it will dissolve in your stomach within minutes, thus giving you the full benefits of all the minerals as opposed to a small percentage you would get from the water.

Among the health benefits of coral calcium is the fact that it can adjust the acidity or alkalinity of your water.  While most people can‘t really take advantage of this on a day to day basis, if you can add it to your homes water supply it could be very beneficial. Additional benefits of adding marine coral calcium include removal of residual chlorine and reduction in bacterial growth as well as other impurities.

When evaluating marine coral calcium, one must understand the general certificate of analysis.  You want a calcium content of between 20 and 28 percent and a magnesium content of between 10 and 14 percent.  You also want to be sure that the levels of bacteria, arsenic, lead, mercury and cadmium are well below critical levels.  In addition, be sure that there are no PCB’s in the coral calcium as this man made substance is known to be cancer causing.

Another one of the benefits of coral calcium is the chelation of minerals. This process occurs naturally when organic substances are bound to minerals that are metallic or to metal ions. In coral calcium this happens when the metals are incorporated into your body. Numerous studies have demonstrated that the body uses and absorbs the chelated metals much more efficiently than plain minerals or elements.

The health benefits of coral calcium are many, including:

1. The ratio of calcium, magnesium and trace minerals in it is in natural proportion to the human body.

2. It is readily absorbed by the body.

3. It is thought to help prevent cancer.

4. It can balance your bodies PH level (which helps fight disease, especially cancer)

5. It cleanses the kidney, intestines and liver.

6. It boosts your immune system

Absorbable Calcium

Getting enough calcium is  important but getting enough absorbable calcium is critical to your health. Unfortunately, most of us do not take in the amount of minerals necessary on a daily basis to maintain optimum health.  The importance of the ratio between calcium and magnesium in the body has been repetitively stressed over the last thirty years, with many reports suggesting that the ideal ratio for cardiac wellness is two to one.  This happens to be the natural ratio of coral calcium, the most readily absorbable calcium available.

When one uses coral calcium as a nutritional supplement, the body gets not just calcium but other minerals as well.  Many studies have compared calcium absorption in the human body from various sources, such as marine-based coral calcium, calcium from cows milk as well as cow bones and regular calcium supplements too.

One study on calcium absorption was conducted on different groups of animals.  Each group was fed various kinds of absorbable calcium along with a regular diet for one month.  The experiments were tightly controlled.  Occasionally the animals’ blood and organs were checked to measure calcium and magnesium content.  The goal of these experiments was to see if the calcium and magnesium ratio was involved with prevention of heart disease.

The animals that got the coral calcium and more calcium in their system. Given this information investigators came to the conclusion that natural coral calcium helps provide more calcium to the entire body not just the blood. There was better absorption from the coral calcium than any other type.

Coral calcium is easier for the body to use than other calcium supplements, including drinking milk or using bone meal. An added benefit from the animal experiment is that those who were given the coral calcium  had an elevated level of HDL cholesterol (the “good“ cholesterol).

So, if you want the best absorbable calcium then go with coral calcium.  Not only does it provide the magnesium and calcium in the ratio your body needs, it also has over 70 trace minerals to provide you with optimum health benefits.

Okinawa Coral Calcium

The people of Okinawa Japan are celebrated for their long and healthy lives.  But what do they attribute this too?  While there may be many reasons, Okinawa coral calcium is at the head of the pack.

Coral calcium is believed to be one of many factors that contribute to an average life expectancy of 105 years on the island of Okinawa, Japan. In comparison, the life expectancy of people living in mainland Japan is 77 years. The coral reefs found in Okinawa contain much calcium as well as abundant minerals to supplement the water supply.

Over two hundred and fifty years ago, the people of Okinawa made two important discoveries regarding the coral sand that had been weathered over the years on their island. By feeding this sand to their chickens and cows the production of eggs and milk doubled in volume. By using the coral sand as fertilizer their crop production tripled.

After seeing how great it worked on the livestock and crops, they added Okinawa coral calcium sand to their diet. According to local Okinawan folklore history, all of the doctors eventually left the island because they were no longer needed. The incidence of diseases and illnesses decreased that dramatically after the people increased their intake of the coral sand. This is referred to as the Japanese Exodus. The coral sand that they were consuming is now known as coral calcium.

Over time, residents of Okinawa have used coral calcium in their dietary regimen.  They are some of the healthiest and long-lived people anywhere.  Many people in their 80s and 90s have very healthy, productive, active lives.  The average number of Okinawans who are at least 100 years old is 28.86 per 100000 of their population.  Only about three people per 100000 are more than 100 years old in the U.S.

Today, researchers are studying the population of Okinawa with anti aging in mind.  Their environment and way of life encourages good health and longevity which is attributed to a variety of factors, including Okinawa coral calcium.

Coral Calcium Benefits

Coral calcium benefits have been much celebrated in the news, but just what is so great about this powdery substance?  Harvested from the Okinawa’s reefs, coral calcium contains the optimum 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium, which is critical for human function.   But that’s not the only thing that makes it so good for us, it also contains more than 70 trace minerals which are key to our good health.  Along with the actual mineral content,  it is very important to know the chemical form of the elements within the coral.

The human body is able to easily absorb many of the elements which are in coral calcium. These elements are essential for effective biological functioning. Chemical antagonism takes place with respect to minerals, which means that they create opposing effects to create an overall chemical balance.

Iron is one of the big coral calcium health benefits. Second only to calcium, iron is the most abundant mineral in the human body. It is an essential for maintaining good oxygen levels. Iron allows the xygen to be transported and stored in muscles and blood. It is also a main component of hemoglobin in the red blood cells. Other elements such as magnesium, Calcium, copper and zinc compete with iron for absorption into the body.

A regular and optimal intake of both major and minor essential minerals is essential for the body to properly function.  The chemical form in which these minerals are taken also affects how efficiently the body is able to process them.

The process becomes more effective in the ionic form when they are taken in the water solution   If we add coral calcium to  water the majority  portion of the mineral becomes ionic.  The body readily accepts the ionized form of coral calcium the second it enters the stomach.

There are so many minerals found in coral calcium it would take too much room to list them!  Some of the ones you might be familiar with include boron, phosphorus, cobalt, chromium, lithium, copper, cesium, fluoride, iodine, manganese, gold, molybdenum, nickel, sodium, potassium, chloride, selenium, vanadium, silicon, sulfur, and zinc.

The coral calcium benefits are tied directly to the many minerals present.  The fact is that modern medicine knows little about minerals and since little research has been done, it remains to be seen how much they affect our health.  Little by little we are learning more and more how important these minerals are to the functioning of our bodies.

Coral Calcium Tea

Can one replace calcium supplement with calcium coral tea to get the same benefits?   If you are a coral ctea drinker then it is important for you to know that you are getting only 2% of the marine coral’s nutrients which dissolve in the water of the tea. Basically, you are drinking coral water, a watered down version of coral calcium.

Some chemical and physical changes occur when coral calcium is put in clean water.  These are beneficial for health, as alkalinity of the water goes up which makes its ph level higher and is helpful in balancing the ph level of the body. The oxidation reduction potential of the water also changes when coral calcium is immersed in water.  But the quantity of the coral sand in the tea bag is very limited and it cannot produce rapid physico-chemical change.  If it is seen that the tea bage are bringing these rapid changes the reason may be that they have been treated by adding other strong alkalinizing substances ,such as calcium hydroixide or other hydroxides or oxides of alkaline metals.

Coral calcium tea then can be said to be a very healthy drink, yet for the full benefits ,this drink is not sufficient and coral calcium taken as a capsule or in powder form will give you much more of the minerals.  Generally people drinking coral tea are not aware  that the  amount of calcium in the tea is very small. Basically, a supplement would have anywhere from 10 to 50 times the amount of minerals you would get in the tea.

But there are still many advantages of drinking this coral water and many say it works very well as a homeopathic remedy. One reason for this is the amounts of different minerals which can provide relief from general aches and pains.   Many people don’t realize that they are deficient in some of the minerals and the tea can replace them, thus aiding in their health.

So, you see,  drinking coral calcium tea does have its benefit  but should not be used as a replacement for dietary calcium supplement.
